Most business owners who want to win business online don’t – because they don’t know how to effectively write about what they do.

How regular writing is different than writing that sells

Regular writing – the stuff we all learned in school – is about information and facts. But writing copy is a different sort of writing. Here are 3 ways writing that sells is different that regular writing:

  1. Writing that sells is about getting people to feel something. For copy to work, you’ve got to get people out of their heads and into their imaginations, instincts, and hearts. Which means YOU need to get “out of your head” first.
  2. Writing that sells is about understanding your audience deeply. You actually need to get clear about who you are writing to, what they want, and what their challenges are.
  3. Writing that sells is about results. If you want to know if your copy is good or not, just look at whether it got people to do something. What are your open rates? How many people clicked? Did you get the right people into sales conversations? You can measure whether or not your writing is working. And that’s a good thing!

Phase 3 of the lab is Up Your Response. There are certain moves and techniques that can only be taught when you write a project, hit a problem, and aren’t sure how to solve it. So in the last 4 weeks of class, our live calls will be Writing Review group sessions, consisting of hot seats. In each hot seat, I’ll review what a different business owner’s writing. And give them feedback on what is great… and what to tweak. You will learn techniques to up your response even more.
